EDP MEPs tell us why they chose to fight for Europe

"Languages, cultures, regional differences and local initiatives must be cherished because they are Europe’s strongest asset."

Statement by EDP delegation after meeting with Sarah Hendriks, Director of Policy, Programme, and Intergovernmental Division at UN Women.

EDP met UN Women

The meeting today provided added insight into efforts at international effort to ensure that women attain full gender equality and empowerment and the full enjoyment of their human rights. We applaud the work by UN for gender equality and women's empowerment. Their work is more important than ever.

Europe too takes a leading role on women’s rights. We continue to fight to enshrine into law gender equality in access to employment as well as equal pay.

Sylvie Brunet, Renew Europe Group Vice President and Vice-Coordinator for the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, said: “It was important to meet Ms. Hendriks because UN Women aims to protect the rights of women and girls around the world. These rights are under attack, including in the United States where the right to abortion is declining."

“The European Democratic Party is committed to women, not only to guarantee them equal access to education, to the labour market and political participation; but also to help them in the fight against gender-based and sexual violence and the protection and promotion of sexual and reproductive rights and health.”
